Namib Desert Experience

Khorixas – Twyfelfontein – Burned Mountain- Uis – Brandberg – Swakopmund

After the riding distances the days before we decided to see some Nambinian monuments so we went to the pertified forrest, the Twyflfontein, looked at the burned mountains and followed some small 4×4 tracks back to the main tracks.

After 37°C in the country we followed the track down to the coast to stay a night in Swakopmund. Coming closer to the Atlatic Ocean the wheather changed dramatically. For us it was close that Germans settled there. The wheather comes close to Hamburg harbour. Fog 17°C – no sun at all. The Hotel “Deutscher Hof” has a special bikers rate, a secured parking and hot shower.

Over all the town is nice but tdue o the foggy the wheather we decided to leave as soon as possible.

In the morning we left direction Walvis Bay and the Namib desert. We faced a massive amount of self drive tourists (see picture below in front of Solitaire Bakery). The more tourist – the unfriedly the people get – the higher the prices.

We tried to stay close to Seisrim and the Entrance to Sossusvleiat a campsite. But the lady at the front desk explained we can onyl stay at the overflow camp site 360 Namibian $ per person without any service. NO THANK YOU! We travelled further on and ended at a nice little campsite “Neuhof”. Unfortunatly we ran out of cold beer and had no food at all. Telling that to the camp officer he answered: “Let me think about that”.

Half and hour later he showed up with a bag of fire wood, spices and a big meat bag – telling us that he puts eight beer in the fridge.

Amazing service also possible. We payed less that the over flow camp and got a better service.

SIDE STORY: I follow a blog from some german luxury overlanders traveling in their 16ton MAN camper. http://www.tracksaroundtheworld.de They came across on a track to the pertrified forrest. But tried to speed as fast as possible, beside some dust we did not get on touch with them.
